Guna Trading House PLC secures 114 million birr profit before tax for the year 2010/11.

Mulualem Berhane, the General Manager of the Company disclosed the information during the closing ceremony celebration held on July 30, 2011 at the Defense Force Officers Club. Mulealem not only has delivered the good news of recommended achievement but also declared that the Company has set an operational plan for the upcoming year to boost its profit before tax by 32%, owing to diversifying its products and increasing its sales volume. He added that the Company has planned to secure close to 60 million dollar from exporting Oil Seeds, Pulses, Coffee, Natural Gum and Flower in the same year.

According to the General Manager the Company was able to accomplish local & foreign sales of birr 1.5 billion. He further explained that the Company’s success was attributed to its competence to aptly exploit the opportunity, on top of its unreserved effort to implement its plan efficiently.

Mulualem said that the portfolio analysis of products indicated that Sesame, Reinforcement Bar, Cement and Coffee hold the first position accounting to 91% of the profit secured. On the other hand, the local sales among which Reinforcement Bar, Chemical, Bitumen, Cement, Tyre, Timber, T-Shirt, Water Pumps are worth mentioning, represent 63% of the total sales. While the export of sesame that is 21000 ton, Coffee 2000 ton, pulses 2000 ton and natural gum 500 ton constitutes 37% of the total sales, fetching in 38 million dollar. He also indicated the current sales performance surpasses that of the preceding year by 78%. Alongside this; he stated that out of the 730 million birr loan, the Company had already settled 712 million birr. Hence he said the Company was able to register commendable credit worthiness among its creditors.

He stated that the Company has been Quality Management System audited and re certified for the third time for properly applying ISO 9001: 2008. According to Mulualem the Company’s best practice and impressive achievement in the export trade was accorded due respect and considered exemplary to other exporters. Consequently, it won the best exporter award for the year 2009/10, for which it received a trophy and a certificate. Besides it got a trophy from EPOSPEA (Ethiopian Pulses, Oil Seeds and Spices Processes Exporters Association) in this regard.

It also invests close to four million to enhance sport. Consequently the Guna bicycle team has been able to register remarkable attainment, receiving 11 cups out of the 14 authorized to Tigray region and some of the team members taking part in regional and international competitions representing Ethiopia.

In addition to the state–of-art cleaning machines installed in Humera and Gondar branches and the high standard warehouses with a capacity of containing more than 200 thousand quintals of sesame, the construction of a warehouse for the installation of another state-of- art sesame cleaning machine at the head office located in Addis is nearing completion.

The General Manager added that the successful accomplishment was a small step in the long journey the Company has to undertake to realize its vision to achieve. He stressed that every employee is duty bound to be well aware of his mission, thereby contributing to the successful performance of 2011/12 plan.

Guna Trading House PLC was awarded a trophy and certificate for registering commendable achievement in fetching immense amount of foreign currency into the country.

At the event organized by the commercial bank of Ethiopia on Dec. 28, 2010 at Sheraton Addis to reward different organization in recognition of their contribution towards allevating the shortage of foreign currency in the country, Guna was able to fall in 1st category of prize winners.

In addition to this, it received a letter from the same bank in which its best practice in the export trade was accorded due respect and cosidered exemplary to other exporters.

Furthermore, Guna received the best exporter award from Ethiopian Pulses, Oilseeds and Spices Processors Exporters Association on February 18, 2011.
